What others are saying . . .

Dannah has tasted the pain and regret of opening God’s good gift of sex before its proper time. She has also experienced the sweet healing, freedom, and joy of walking in repentance, forgiveness, and grace. Her message is one every teen girl—and each of their moms—needs to hear. I’m so thankful for the way she is allowing God to use her story, grounded in His Word, to speak into the lives of young women. God is using her to speak into the lives of young women in an engaging and powerful way. I wish I could persuade every teen girl—and every mom—to read this book. ~ Nancy Leigh DeMoss, co-author with Dannah Gresh of Lies Young Women Believe

Dannah challenges young women to say "yes" to what the white wedding dress represents. In a warm, easy-to-read style, she counters the message of this sex-crazed culture with priceless pearls of truth. ~ Mary A. Kassian, author of Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild

I admire Dannah Gresh in so many ways. Her ministry is moving; her writing is relevant; she is a role model to women of all ages and seasons of life. As a survivor, speaker and author on the topic of sexual abuse, I constantly see and hear firsthand the pain of sexually broken and I understand the deep need for Dannah's message. The re-release of her best-seller And The Bride Wore White is an answer to the cry of our culture. This book is a timeless classic that will bring healing and hope to all generations. ~ Nicole Bromley, speaker & author, oneVOICEenterprises

I first read And The Bride Wore White when it was an unpublished manuscript and I was a freshman in college. I devoured it in a single setting and the lessons I learned made a huge impact on my life. as a woman who has now been married more than a decade I still remember and cherish the lessons Dannah presents in this book. Dannah does what other authors do not by moving beyond God's call to purity and outlining a plan to make waiting possible and desirable. This book gave me the blueprint to build a pure marriage, a gift that I am eternally grateful for. Consider And The Bride Wore White a must read for every girl who's ever dreamed of a pure and holy marriage. ~ Erin Davis, author of Graffiti: Learning to See the Art in Ourselves

The loss of virginity is not simply a physical state of being, but effects the emotional, mental and spiritual lives of every girl. Which is why I appreciate Dannah Gresh and her passion to see girls not only value their virginity, but why the ought to do so. With vulnerability, humor and grace, this book provides girls with the tools they need to take ownership of their bodies, minds and hearts. ~ Crystal Renaud, author of Dirty Girls Come Clean

Human sexuality is at the center of most of the bitter cultural struggles being waged in our day.  Far too many young women don't know right from wrong when it comes to their bodies and their minds because they have bought into the low moral standards promoted on television and in contemporary movies and music.  In a friendly, personal manner, Dannah Gresh helps her readers understand that sexuality is a beautiful gift from God and that He intends it to be reserved for marriage.  I highly recommend And the Bride Wore White to any young woman who wants God's best for her life. ~ Richard Land, President, Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission & host, For Faith & Family Radio

Dannah has a fresh way of sharing important truths we need to hear.  In an age of moral decline even among our church youth, this message is needed now more than ever.  Give Dannah your ear.  You won't be disappointed. ~ Anita Lustrea, host/producer, Midday Connection

As a mother of two teenage daughters, I cannot think of any book more beautifully inspiring than And the Bride Wore White.  My daughters loved Dannah's insights, her humor, and her call for a life without regrets.  I am deeply grateful for the realistic role model she is for my daughters...She has changed their lives, and in doing so she has changed mine. ~ Tammy Maltby, author and co-host of Emmy-nominated Aspiring Women

Purity Speaks Boldly Preparing Your Tongue for Dates

10-4It pays to do things the hard way, which is the case more often than not when you seek the Lord's will. My relationship with Bob Gresh is more unique and special than it ever has been. There are not any "I love yous," there are no physical displays how than when those things were present. It's not easy. There are days I don't share with him and yet I'm so thankful that the Lord has given us the wisdom to patiently wait for His timing.

11-13I argued with Bob tonight. No, we didn't fight, but we enthusiastically debated our views. I never even knew I had it in me. Debate is somehow stimulating. In fact, if we hadn't been disagreeing, I'd have been laughing.

I laid down my journal, having read the slow progression of several months of a relationship I was treasuring. Our hearts, which for a few weeks were so easily read and unguarded in our passion, had relinquished to an unspoken determination by our heads to progress slowlypainfully slowly.

However, there was a sense of an upcoming reward to the pain of waiting. I wasn't afraid in this relationship because I was not entirely vulnerable. I felt no risk of becoming overly physical because that was in no way a part of our relationship. And best of all, there were still some incredible moments ahead of us. I did not realize it, but I was about to experience one of them.

I glanced at the clock and realized it was time to meet Bob at my dorm lobby. He met me, escorted me to his car, and got in. As we drove away, the conversation picked up where we'd left off the last time we'd been together. We had a pace of our conversation. It was aggressive and determined. We had no awkward pauses as we wondered what to say next. We were on a mission to chisel into each other's minds and were using words as our primary tool.

Suddenly, he stopped the car. I noticed the soft January snowflakes for the first time and felt the hush of a fresh snowfall embrace our car. It was as if time had suddenly stopped.

He reached over and tenderly kissed the tip of my nose, barely brushing my lips as he pulled away.

"This is a far as I want any physical contact to go between us," he whispered and then drove on. We were silent for the first time in months. I pondered the unspoken words he had not used to charge me with a great task. I heard him. He was asking me to keep talking. I did.

The tongue is a powerful tool. James compares it to the rudder of a great ship. With just this little instrument, you can set your course for a direction toward something great or toward the perils of an iceberg.

Though somewhat of an introvert, I found that keeping my lips loose kept my relationship headed toward greatness. I've seen a trend as I counsel young women in their relationships. Author Robert Wolgemuth spoke of it in his book, She Calls Me Daddy. He said that young women who have learned the art of conversation are less likely to e caught in compromising physical situations. Why? "First, assuming that boys will nearly always be the aggressors, {you'll} know how to openly express {your} commitments to purity andfears of the consequences of premarital intimate contact. Second, young lovebirds usually choose between talk and the back seat. They don't do both simultaneously." If you truly desire to live a lifestyle of purity, you'll learn the secret of speaking boldly.

Not just a "don't"- a "WHY"
By Amy L Conner
Every woman should read this book. Especially if you have daughters. No matter where you are in your life, as a young unmarried woman, a wife/mom, or even a grandmother Dannah's words will speak to your heart. I bought this book for my 16 yr old sister and found that even as a happily married wife and mom, I couldn't put it down. All my life I'd heard the "don't" message and although there are plenty of compelling reasons often mentioned (STD's unwanted pregnancy ect) the most compelling of all was missed. I found it in these pages. The most compelling reason to strive for purity is the reward. Purity is holding your hunger at bay, anticipating the incredible feast God has created in marital love. Purity is getting and staying focused on the goal- and like Dannah says it is a process. Why on earth would you choose cheetos when you have a banquet prepared and waiting! If you didn't know what the banquet was all about your hunger might get the best of you- For many of us it did. I cried when I finished this book thinking of how my life might have been different if only someone had given me this book when I was 16. But after the mourning came healing. Read this book. Give it to your daughters, your sisters, your granddaughters... God will bless you all.

Not just an abstinence message
By maria telegraphis
Before meeting Dannah I had already heard the abstinence message. The message that I had heard told my generation not to have sex because we just shouldn't. Reasons for waiting was so we didn't have to experience STD's, unwanted pregenacies, and mulitple heartaches. Often the message would be given by someone who had long since experienced the temptation of premarital sex. It was almost if the married speakers would be bragging because they could do something that we were not yet allowed to. When I went to one of Dannah's retreats I knew that there was something different about her and her message. Her message was one of love, making you able to connect with her. She said that purity is a process, you do not wake up one morning and are pure, and you don't just loose it through an act. Purity is much greater and has to be culitvated through your relationship with Christ. By saying that purity is a process, she was also saying that just because you are married does not mean you are done with working on purity. When she admitted that she put herself on our level and was no longer someone who had it all figured out,but someone who understood what we were going through. She also used her personal stories to help us understand that she is not to condem us but to identify with us. It is how she identifies with us that makes us want to hear what she has to say. Dannah also makes it extremely clear that the reason why God wants us to wait is not to spoil our fun, but to give you the best sexual experience later. God loves His children to have sex, but only in the proper setting. He wants you to wait not so you can be deprived of sex but so that you will not be deprived of what sex is supposed to be. How can that holy act that is meant to bring two people and make them as one, be as holy if it has occurred with others and out of the context of marriage? Dannah also makes us realize that God does not set up these standards and then leaves us but is with us every step of the way. She reminds us that God is always there for us even if we had premarital sex. His forgivness out weighs our failures and he can always make us pure again. I would highly recommend this book because it encompasses everything that is in her retreats. My generation has to understand that they are precious in God's eyes and that He wants us to save sex so we can be the happiest later in our lives. Dannah Gresh does a beautiful job in drawing her readers closer to God so that He can tell them what He needs them to hear.

A junior high youth leader's perspective
By teachercampbell
I bought this book to "skim" for information that I could use for my junior high youth group girls. I couldn't stop reading! I stayed up late to read to the very last page.
The nonfiction text is full of true accounts from all kinds of girls and women and that kept the pace of the book very readable. While some nonfiction can get bogged down in details and over-explaining, Dannah Gresh is a gifted storyteller and uses beautiful language with a gentle, encouraging style.
I found this book extremely helpful for use in our church's junior high youth group. Since that time, the author has put together a leader's guide, but I made my own lesson plans based on the book and it was a wonderful experience!

I did find, though, that the junior high girls didn't read it as voraciously as I had. Their older, high school sisters loved it, so I'd say the reading level is 9th or 10th grade.
I highly recommend this book!

Second Front: Censorship and Propaganda in the Gulf War, by John R. MacArthur

While the United States government made noisy preparations to go to war against Saddam Hussein, it was also purposefully planning another war. But this enemy, unlike Hussein, was strangely passive in the face of these threatening maneuvers. John R. MacArthur scrutinizes the government's unprecedented assault on the constitutional freedoms of the American media during Operation Desert Storm. With a reporter's critical eye and a historian's sensibility, he traces decades of press-government relations—during Vietnam, Grenada, and Panama—which helped set the stage for restrictions on Gulf War reporting and for a public-relations triumph by the government.

From Publishers Weekly
The publisher of Harper's magazine here decries what he sees as the Pentagon's efforts to sanitize the Gulf war. First he reviews the Defense Department's technique during Grenada of creating a media pool and ensuring that it arrived after the action, and in Panama of virtually imprisoning the pool on an army base. He then turns to "Operation Desert Muzzle," as he calls it, a "devastating and immoral victory" for military censorship and a "crushing defeat" for the press and the First Amendment. MacArthur expresses revulsion at the media's timid acquiescence to the Pentagon's tight control of news, combined with its "out-and-out boosterism and jingoism." He criticizes Dan Rather's casual but heartfelt "salute to our young men and women out there" as offensive. In a final scene, for which his puzzling metaphor is Nathanael West's Day of the Locust , MacArthur describes how reporters at a postwar Washington banquet fawned over Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf: " . . . the Fourth Estate bowing to a man who had treated them with contempt." The tendency in the media, the author warns in this somewhat shrill treatise, is toward more and more supine, "suck-up" coverage of military operations.

From Library Journal
The United States was partly pushed into the Persian Gulf war by a slick public relations campaign on behalf of Kuwait. Concurrently, the Pentagon coolly executed a censorship program accepted by a timid, divided American media. That is the thesis offered by MacArthur, publisher of Harper's magazine, in his solidly documented indictment of media performance during the war. He faults both print and broadcasting for ineffective or nonexistent protests against censorship and for poor war reporting. (On obstacles to strong reporting in recent years, see Peter Stoler's The War Against the Press , LJ 12/86.) MacArthur deserves credit for illuminating interviews with CBS anchor Dan Rather and others, though his sarcastic tone, particularly on the subject of Pentagon spokesman Pete Williams, somewhat detracts from his argument. Recommended for media collections.

From Kirkus Reviews
Seldom have the American media appeared so hornswoggled, so cowardly, or so supine in defending the First Amendment as they are portrayed as being in this bitter polemic on Persian Gulf War coverage by the publisher of Harper's. Virtually from the moment American troops were stationed in Saudi Arabia following Saddam Hussein's takeover of Kuwait, MacArthur contends, the Bush Administration ``never intended to allow the press to cover a war in the Persian Gulf in any real sense.'' In the wake of tight news-management of Grenada and Panama, that doesn't come as a surprise; the real revelation here, based on numerous interviews with journalists and close critical analysis of news accounts, is how the press played along in the hope of grabbing the few scraps of news that fell from the government's table. According to MacArthur, Pentagon spokesperson Peter Williams decisively outflanked the media through his blandly mendacious reassurances that the press would be provided access to the conflict in stages. Thereafter, journalists--confined to press``pools'' that were escorted by armed-forces representatives- -became glorified stenographers for Pentagon propagandists. MacArthur details how the press apparently uncritically accepted and disseminated self-serving myths perpetrated by the Bush Administration and the Kuwaiti government's American p.r. flacks- -including myths about Kuwaiti babies snatched from incubators by Iraqi soldiers, the precision of ``smart bombs,'' and the exaggerated size and morale of Saddam Hussein's forces. Afterward, MacArthur says, journalists who didn't yield to hand-wringing over the government's jawboning fawned over General Schwarzkopf or led the cheerleading for their own organization's pathetic coverage. Some of MacArthur's conclusions--notably, the importance of the incubator story in the crucial Congressional debate on the war- -seem overdrawn, and he resorts to unrelieved sarcasm to buttress his case. But few readers can finish his powerful account without fearing for the future of freedom of the press--and of American democratic institutions. -- Copyright ©1992, Kirkus Associates, LP. I wish I had read this earlier
By Robin Orlowski
During the Gulf War, I was an elementary schooler who eagerly bought the propaganda the government. my school district, and hometown were promoting in the name of patrotism.
I earnestly snapped up everything and anything having to do with the millitary, American Flags or Yellow Ribbons convinced that our side was the right side--and unlike the war in Vietnam, the reasoning for deployment was universally accepted by the American people. Although I now realize there were people voicing conciencious objection to war with Iraq (because among other reasons, we had once supported Saddam Hussein's rise to power including oulfiting his troops with weapons when it suited our international interests and did not seriously care what would happen to the people of Iraq afterwards), if given any coverage in the national news at all, they were riddiculouslsy marginalized as outcasts who were living in a gigantic timewarp and did not understand that this was the 1990's.
My parents, having lived through Vietnam, were more cynical about the millitary opperation--but did not challenge the advertising marketed towards their daughter for fear of being perceived as unsupportive of America's objectives. Because they realized that the Gulf War was fought partly over US Petroleum interests, support was actually a more complex issue than I was receiving from media, institutional, and peer socialization.
MacArthur and Bagdikian provide a wealth of information for anybody who wants to revisit this time in international/American history and uncover the truth that all too quickly disappeared and was ommitted in the name of national unity. The so-called "liberal-media" defered to government preferences and reporting angles in it's coverage of the Persian Gulf, reducing 20 years of profoundly complex relations in this region of the world to a binary presentation of "good guys v. bad guys". The ultimate loosers in this scenario of course are the American people who never get to see the full justifications of their leaders, policy makers and public officials.
Although we think of information suppression as something that was supposed to be eliminated with post-Vietnam millitary oversight procedures and policies, they continued during this event---in an albeit more subtle way. In the world of public policy, just because you cannot see something does not mean that it is non-existent.
Granted, looking at a gritter past may be hard, but this action is neccesary to fully understand how media and politics work together in times of war--and not necessarily for the benefit of the citizens at large. The timelieness of this scholarship is wholly appreciated and badly needed.

A must read before the start of the second Gulf war
By A Customer
For anyone who still believes that we have a free, open, and unbiased press in this country, read this book. Before we go to war again against Iraq and start getting the government's highly censored version of events, it will be helpful to understand what we were told last time and why.

I wish the author of this book had gotten more media coverage prior to Gulf War Redux. It is a fascinating look at the inner workings of the so-called free press, and the difficult and dysfunctional relationship a journalist has with the DOD, Pentagon...all those governmental "powers that be"....Check it out. Definately.

Saturn's Children, by Charles Stross

Sometime in the twenty-third century, humanity went extinct—leaving only androids behind. Freya Nakamichi 47 is a femmebot, one of the last of her kind still functioning. With no humans left to pay for the pleasures she provides, she agrees to transport a mysterious package from Mercury to Mars. Unfortunately for Freya, she has just made herself a moving target for some very powerful, very determined humanoids who will stop at nothing to possess the contents of the package.

From Publishers Weekly
Sex oozes from every page of this erotic futuristic thriller. In a far-future class-driven android society, most of the populace are slave-chipped and owned by wealthy aristos. When low-caste but unenslaved android Freya offends an aristo and needs to get off-world, she takes a courier position with the mysterious Jeeves Corporation, but the job turns out to have dangers of its own. Designed as a pleasure-module, Freya isn't quite as obsolete as she could be, as androids have sex with each other incessantly. Hugo-winner Stross (Halting State) has a deep message of how android slavery recapitulates humanity's past mistakes, but he struggles to make it heard over the moans and gunshots. Readers nostalgic for the SF of the '60s will find much that's familiar (including Freya's jumpsuit-clad form on the cover), but that doesn't quite compensate for the flaws. (July)

From Bookmarks Magazine
Charles Stross is a unique voice among today’s wave of “New British SF” writers, but he also knows his history. Saturn’s Children is dedicated to old lions Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov, and the ghosts of both (especially Heinlein) can be felt in the latest effort. Reviews of the novel vary wildly, which may suggest as much about the tastes of particular SF readers as it does about the specific case. The combination of sex and violence clashes a bit with some deep philosophizing on identity and purpose, though Stross’s sense of humor and Freya’s rollicking adventure transcend what SF Reviews deems “some bizarre cross-genre hybrid.” Many SF readers will appreciate the novel, deemed as one of Stross’s more accessible, and revel in the author’s numerous nods toward his influences; others might want to give it a pass.

From Booklist
In the preamble to his latest far-reaching novel, Stross invokes Asimov’s famous three laws of robotics, including the one that says robots are forbidden to harm their human masters. The problem here is that there are no more humans left to harm; they became extinct sometime in the twenty-third century. Hundreds of years on, the civilization that spans the solar system and beyond consists entirely of sophisticated androids, one of whom (the narrator) is struggling to make ends meet. With her usual patrons long dead, femmebot Freya Nakamichi must pick up work wherever she finds it. When a run-in with a vengeful android aristocrat forces her to flee a Venus resort, she grabs the first gig available: ferrying a mysterious package between Mercury and Mars. Unfortunately, many dangerous and powerful androids are also eager to pilfer the package, and the price of securing it may be Freya’s own identity. Stross takes a plot device common to mystery novels and turns it into one of the most stylishly imaginative robot tales ever penned. --Carl Hays

Late-period Heinlein Juvenile for Adults
By Oso Blanco
Welcome to a future in which all the dreams of the 1950's have been realized: exploring the solar system, extraterrestrial colonies all the way out to the Oort Cloud, fast-transit spaceships, etc. etc. But they've been realized by our successors, the robots, not by living humans, who are extinct. And now our heirs squabble, in fashions just as ugly as we their Creators did.

If the title of this review sounds confusing, it's because I have a lot of trouble putting this book into any fixed category. The heroine, Freya, is a sexbot (hence the late period, where Heinlein's characters actually were interested in sex). However, her situation is pure 1950's Heinlein juvenile, wherein Our Heroine is in Great Peril and must Find Out What's Really Going On.

On the surface, this book is a really fun romp, as Freya's viewpoint effectively takes her on a Grand Tour of the solar system, from Venus to Mercury to Mars and outward to the Oort Cloud, seeing, meeting, fighting and sexing her way through the many variants that will be possible once the physical housing for intelligence becomes as malleable as technology and function allow. For that part alone, this story is worth the trip.

But this book is by no means as simple as the above summary suggests. Just as in his last book, "Halting State", it's the hidden infrastructure that's important, and it ends up involving Asimov's unstated Fourth Law of Robotics (Any sufficiently complex intelligence will end up doing what it damn well pleases, first three laws notwithstanding.), the ethics of interpersonal relations, and the ultimate question of "Just what do you mean by a person?"

I recommend this book highly. I had the great good luck to obtain an advance copy, and after I had read it once, I went back and re-read it to pick up on all the neat bits, both story and philosophy, that I missed on the first "gosh-wow" read through. I don't do that often, since my eyeballs are heavily subscribed.

And I think I'm going to go back a third time. Read this at least once. You won't be disappointed.

Shakespeare and manga as well as Heinlein and Asimov
By R. Kelly Wagner
Since several other reviewers have already described the overall plot and the main themes of this book - what does it mean to be a person, what does it mean to be free vs. slave, etc. - I'm just going to concentrate on my observations of the individual elements of the book that intrigued me, rather than repeating those. So please read this review in conjunction with several others, so you get the whole picture.

Charles Stross has a habit of paying specific homage to previous generations of science fiction authors in his books - for example, to Cordwainer Smith in "Glasshouse" - and in this one, he specifically mentions Heinlein and Asimov. However, there are many more references in here than just ones to Heinlein's and Asimov's books, though those are the most obvious ones. Some of them will be references only readers who have read some of the body of literature from 30 to 50 years ago will get (or even older - how many people will read the line about a character with urea and acetate and remember the old idiomatic phrase about being full of piss and vinegar?); others may be references that only younger readers will get. (For example, right at the beginning, where some of the characters are described as bishojo and chibi forms - mostly, it's going to be the younger generation that automatically knows what those are, from manga and anime; old fogeys may have to go look it up on the intertubes, which interrupts the reading experience.) And sometimes the references are more trouble than they're worth - giving two of the characters seldom-used nicknames so that one fleeting Shakespeare reference can be thrown in. Nonetheless, it's fun to try and recognize all the sources that Stross is giving credit to.

Stross's characters are a mixed bag, as far as level of characterization goes. Sometimes it gets a bit confusing - which aliases are sibs of which others? Whose soul chip is in whose body now? Wait, are Domina and Granita related? In general, though, most of the avatars are identifiable enough to follow the plot. And some of the characters, even bit parts, are truly one-of-a-kind: Lindy the sex-crazed shipping pod, for example, and Bilbo the hobo, who may or may not be saner than he sounds, and Paris the hotel front desk.

Stross also has a way with words that can cause one to splort soda out of one's nose on occasion, such as the beginning of one chapter: "There can be few sights more out of place in a luxury hotel than an angry bald ogress in a ripped black gown who storms in through the service entrance and demands to talk to the management..."

There are many other small bits that all add up to fun - the passing Monty Python reference, the ring-tailed lemur who snores, calling someone Igor, Dr. Ecks, the parody of the Creation Museum (and the mocking of Intelligent Design/Creationism in general). There are probably a few I missed, since I haven't read nearly as great a percentage of the literature ever written as Stross obviously has. Also, speaking of literature, I note that as with most of Stross, this book has had excellent editing, and is almost entirely free of the spelling confusions and grammatical errors that plague most genre and popular fiction these days.

Family reading alert: even though, as many people have pointed out, the plot for this book is largely based on Heinlein's juveniles, this is most definitely not a kid's book or even young-adult; there's far more sex in it than even in Heinlein's later adult novels, and some of it is very kinky sex. Probably not for anyone too young to buy the book with their own charge card.

Summary: although there are flaws - moments where it's hard to tell the characters apart (which was also a flaw in later Heinlein), a few points where the character's actions were a bit of a non-sequiter - this is nonetheless a move-right-along, action-packed space opera, with a great deal of humor and wit.

A Confusing Journey Into the World of Femmebots
By A. Bell
I thought this was going to be a wonderful book when I started it. Stross has quite an imagination for worlds unlike ours. He has created a world where humans are extinct and robots have colonized the galaxy because they don't have human biological restrictions. He has some really interesting ideas such interplanetary travel that starts with a giant ferris wheel that takes your pod into orbit where you're attached to something kind of like a ski lift that takes you to the next planet. He also has an interesting idea for a movable city that travels on railroad tracks across the face of Mercury to avoid the extreme hot and cold weather of each day as the planet turns.

I should have stopped reading after Mercury.

The main idea behind the story is that robots can experience the memories of their dead siblings by inserting their dead siblings' "soul chips" into themselves. Thus, your siblings' education, training, and memories can become your own. Unfortunately, this makes for confusing reading. The main character, Freya, switches between at least 6 identities. And other robots around her are switching identities, too -- even taking on some of Freya's alternate identities. I had no idea who was who and who was doing what to whom half the time. And then there was also the problem of not knowing if the character was dreaming, remembering, or living an experience of her own or of someone else.

You get to the end of the book and it's just more of a relief than an answer to any questions. I really wanted to like this book based on the strong beginning, but it just got more convoluted and confusing the further along it went. If I weren't stuck in a waiting room with this book, I don't think I could have finished it.
