I met Mr. Ben Evans on Facebook and then learned about this Guide for Special Needs Taekwon-Do. Ben is certainly passionate about the art and the benefits of Taekwon-do for special needs students. Of that, there is little doubt. This guide, which is now in its second edition, surpassed my expectations. This is not a how-to book. It is, as titled, a guide to help Taekwon-do instructors either 1) better meet the needs of their students, but more importantly 2) how to develop a Taekwon-do special needs program for schools and organizations. The book has at least 1 photo on most pages, but the photos are not overly large nor consume space needlessly. The last 1/3 of the book or so instructs students, with photographs of a special needs student, how to perform several of the ITF Taekwon-do patterns.

Although this book is written by an ITF stylist, the principles found within these pages apply to any Taekwondo program, including WTF and independent programs. Taekwondo is only the vehicle to help special needs students grow and reach their full potential through an instructor who, at his or her core, cares about the development of the students. If you work with special needs students, that is probably one of the first requirements to begin with. Throughout this book, Ben Evans clearly demonstrates by word and deed that he believes every special needs student will benefit from learning and practicing Taekwon-do in ways that most do not realize.

If you operate a special needs program and are looking for a physical activity for the students, Taekwondo is an ideal activity to not only give them exercise but provide them with many other benefits. This guide is quite possibly the first published reference to help you research and implement just such a program for the special needs students in your care. This guide may also likely be the best resource as well to start you on this journey.

I believe the first 2 reviewers were commenting on the 1st edition of the book, criticisms which may have been accurate. This 2nd edition, however, addresses some of the weaknesses of the 1st edition. Every page has interesting and helpful information.

I would have like to seen more how one addresses the differing problems ...

I am a retired special ed teacher. I bought this book for my son as he teaches Taekwon-Do. It sat around my house for a while so I picked it and read it. I have to agree with the previous review that there are too many single photo pages and it adds to the cost. The real complaint I have is that there are different physical needs for special ed students. I would have like to seen more how one addresses the differing problems of these kids. How do you develop the necessary balance for martial arts? A good start and hopefully the author will address the concerns. Someone else needs to write some special needs books for martial arts. Get to it...

This is an important book but it has flaws. There is useful information that the author has learned while teaching Taekwon-Do to special needs kids. This is the useful part. The bad part is that it seems like a term paper turned in where the writer is trying to make a page count. The largest section of the book is one photo a page of one of his students doing Won-hyo. These could have been combined to four photos a page to keep the page count down. The books is unusually expensive thought I have been told that all profits go to the kids.

Motivational Book --- a MUST READ!

After attending Ryan Beale's book launch in Royal Oak, Michigan. I was so intrigued to read this book. I have been participating in my own personal journey of trying to post less on Facebook and really try to do more inner work on myself. This book is obviously not just about Facebook - it is so much more! The more I read, the more inspired I was to post less on Facebook and actually do some in-person or phone catch ups with people that I would have normally just communicated with them via Facebook. I believe this book is the start of something REALLY BIG. As a recent social work graduate, I have been watching the recent trends of the school shootings and believe now more than ever it truly takes a village to raise a child. Gaining more insight on our own personal journey really has the positive impact we need to rebuild ourselves, family and community. I want to thank Ryan for sharing his unbelievable journey with us. It was brave and honest. It is not easy to share such personal pain and to be so open about it. He is courageous and smart for opening up - and I hope that when others read this book, they are inspired to look inward and focus on what really matters. Inner happiness. This is a MUST READ and I feel so honored to know both Ryan and his wife, Louise and hopefully to help Ryan get involved with some work at the ADL to get into our educational programming and get more people talking about mental health.

A light, yet deep, insightful and meaningful read

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this well-written book by Ryan G. Beale. Having personal experience with family mental health issues, I could relate to much of the many points and suggestions!

This book is approximately 1/2 autobiography and 1/2 self-help book. Mr. Beale narrates the book in 1st person, revealing his perceptions, reactions and interpretations to his older brother's challenges with various addictions. He also analyzes today's "social media" usage as a diversionary tactic meant to avoid experiencing emotions and having true interpersonal relationships.

Fourty Days off Facebook contains references to various effective therapy techniques including: journaling, blogging (via his "Chattertree" site), sharing with others in the same "boat" and more. Last, but not least, it is a book meant to help the reader get in touch with one's internal, unspoken, yet very real feelings and aspirations. The last 40 pages of the book serve to assist the reader in doing this.

Bravo! to Ryan G. Beale! He has exploded onto the literary scene with an amazing, wonderful, productive, triumphant and super beginning! HE IS HERE TO STAY! I await his grandiose projects that are yet to be created!

Amazing Book!!

The title intrigued me since I am not a true believer of Facebook myself, but after reading the book in just a few hours I was so delighted with the amazing insight. What a wonderful emotional journey, this book took me to places in my heart and mind and left me with much to think about. I think this book is so helpful to remind us the importance of real connections with the people in our lives and not just using social media to accomplish those connections. Looking forward to more insight from this author! Thank you for bringing this very important message to the public and thank you for sharing your personal journey with us all!

Matthew Rogers is a longtime food and nutrition enthusiast and chef. He has been teaching classes in how to make raw desserts since 2006. He lives in San Francisco. My favorite raw cookbook

I have over 20 raw cookbooks, and this has risen to the top of my collection. If the house were burning down and I could only grab one raw cookbook, this would be it. This book is different from others in that it uses new ingredients and new techniques that make raw desserts that are truly set apart. Most every recipe has a wonderful accompanying picture. The cakes look amazing. I've made the chocolate/orange frosting and it was wonderful--thick, rich, pipable, and silky smooth. This is the first raw cookbook that I've seen address how to make true chocolate-covered cream-filled raw truffles. If you have a sweet tooth and follow a raw vegan diet, this book will make you very happy!
5/1/2009 update: This is STILL my very favorite raw recipe book. I'm eating German Chocolate cake--with a HUGE smile on my face. The cake has an amazing texture...just like a real cake (like a dense flourless cake). I've made the fudge and coconut cream pie...I'm just amazed at how delicious everything is.

Best book in my collection

This book has the best dessert recipes I've tried from over a dozen books in my collection! I agree with prior reviewers - some of the recipes take quite a bit of preparation, and you must have certain tools to do them well - for example, a very good scale, an understanding of how to measure (both dry and liquid), and the money necessary to prepurchase some ingredients that you will not easily find from local stores; you will likely be forced to use the Internet to purchase things like Irish Moss and other ingredients. Many recipes take more than a day of prep, and then some post-time like gelling. It's not likely that you will make and serve these things in the same day. But many of the desserts are well worth the prep and wait time!

This being said, the desserts are amazing - the best I've tried. Having tried 5-6 so far, they are incredible. You will not believe that they aren't using cooked ingredients - the structure and tastes are very well done (ex: lemon merengue, apple pie, several of the cakes). The accompanying photos help a lot to see how the creation might look if you followed it the authors way, you can, of course, mix things up and change the appearance to suit your own guests.

I consider this the book to use when one has company over and you are looking to put on a quality meal/show. While we do use it occasionally for everyday eating, it's a lot of work to throw it together for a family of 3. This is the type of book that will convert people to the raw food way in a most enjoyable way.

I am still looking for that 'chocolate chip cookie recipe' to die for. This book does not have one that rivals the best baked ones I am used to. Might have to create one and send it in... ;)

Oh My God!

This is an amazing followup to their excellent 'I am Grateful' book. I have been eating raw foods for over 20 years, and live with my husband and kids who don't follow a raw food diet. We all agree these are the best desserts we have ever tasted. I have seen many raw food deserts from many books, but these set a new standard for raw chefs everywhere. Eating the tiramasu and the cheesecakes almost made time stop! I suggest you make these desserts when you have nothing pressing on your agenda, because you may just forget everything else.

This is an ideal book for the entrepreneur, corporate career fast tracker, independent contractor or business owner looking to distinguish themselves in a highly competitive world. It causes one to take a self examination of how the world sees you and how you want to be seen. It is not just a book for "sales" professionals - it is a book for growth professionals. This has the power of Reis & Trout's "Positioning" at the personal level.

Easy Informative and Instructional Information that Motivates Everyone to develop their Personal Brand

This book came into my life at the exact right time, and is helping me focus on building my own personal brand. Kraig takes you through a step-by-step process to help you focus on how to apply your gifts and talents that make you best-in-class. He then helps you find the right way to create a memorable slogan to use with the promotion of your brand. All by having your fill out answers to structured questions at the end of each chapter.

But, more than just the coaching to help you achieve this goal, he also goes through the mechanics of how to set up social media accounts and use them. You can even follow his easy-to-follow instructions on how to create your own website. That's truly the whole package.

And, while it may sound intimidating to even consider being the best in the world at something, the reality is that we all have something that we do very well, and perhaps better than anyone else. It's just a matter of putting it into the correct context to elevate it into a niche that makes your expertise valuable to others.

And, even the most nervous technophobe will be able to follow the instructions on how to set up accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media sites. But, the real technical value of this book is how Kraig explains how to find a domain appropriate for your brand, how to purchase it, and how to set up your own website for blogging or even eCommerce. He makes it so easy, you really can't make any excuses.

Kraig is someone who has taken a career that was rooted in old-school technology and sales, and leaped into the 21st Century digital world to have even greater success. His book helps everyone who has a reason to have a resume and LinkedIn account take the next step to present to future employers, business associates, partners, and even customers, a clear and concise memorable branding that will make them more valuable to whomever they work with or for.

I bought the book on Friday, finished it on Sunday, and just bought my domain on Tuesday matching my Twitter and Facebook account names. I hope to be publishing on my blog tomorrow.

There are so many words of wisdom in this easy read book on how to kickstart your path to success. This is an excellent and Intuitive manual on how to restart your life.
Don't try to be like everyone else. This world only has one you, find out who you are and proclaim it from the rooftops. You will be surprised at who shows up to cheer you on.
Starting tomorrow, I am going to find my brand and let the world know who that is.

Eleven Pounds shares the couple's courage in moving forward even as they were touched by tragedy. George and Cora taught their children and generations following that they could compete with anybody anywhere if they maintained a strong work ethic, commitment to faith and family, and a belief that the color of a man's skin cannot destroy his potential.

Their story also stresses the importance of choosing marriage partners based on character, being brave in the face of adversity, helping others, and trusting in God when darkness descends.

Jewel Thomas drew on oral history from family members, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, census records, and birth, marriage and death certificates in crafting this unforgettable story of one family's determination to not only survive but thrive.

Jewel Thomas began research for this book in 2003, meeting weekly with her source, Lillian Robinson (Aunt Jack), to learn more about the family's history. Jewel, born and raised in Herminie, Pennsylvania, has a master's degree in public policy and management from Carnegie-Mellon University. She believes that every family has a story that is worth telling.

Eleven Pounds was a beautifully written and inspiring account of a family overcoming a tremendous number of hardships in the early 1900's from discrimination to family tragedies. Jewel is very descriptive of the situations that this family has gone through, which makes it easy to empathize and bond with them. There is never a dull moment with the Pounds family, which makes this an especially enjoyable read. You will not regret buying this book, it is truly a wonderful read and contains lessons and laughs for every generation. It is sure to spark your interest in researching your own family history. This true story shows that you never know what you may come across.

My review is somewhat biased for I know most of the people in the story. I had a great nostalgic trip as I read. Jewel described the environment and the people very accurately and with intense feelings. This book was so interesting to me that I read it in less than one day. My grandparents operated a hotel in the building where the later dances were held. I have dear memories of many family events that took place in that building, and I went to school with a number of the people she described as partrons, or musicians, at those dances.

Being interested in the subject of genealogy, I purchased the book with great anticipation. The author has created an interesting and effective weaving of historical fact and plausible fiction. Both the style and subject matter make the book suitable for a wide audience. "Eleven Pounds: It Came to Pass" is an easy read: you won't need an unabridged volume of the Oxford English Dictionary as your tableside reading companion. The story also moves quickly as it gives details of the lives of the family members who constitute the book's eponymous title. A chief attribute of the book is that it has an almost universal appeal. Nearly all ethnic groups and cultures can relate to the themes of adaptibility, identity, acceptance, faith, hard work and perseverance that course through its pages. If the book manages to stir in its readers the same sentiment that stirred in me: a profound sense of appreciation for the lives and sacrifices of family members who came before, then it can be considered an important read that serves a marvelous purpose.

Great book with lots of useful gardening information!

I like this book alot. This book has a ton of useful information in it. It has detailed information about selecting the right containers, seeds starting, crop rotation, and many other topics that I found very helpful. One of my favorite chapters - lists the best plants for new or busy gardeners. This is a great list because lets face it-not many of us have a ton of time to devote to gardening. This is especially useful to new gardeners who want easy to grow plants while learning to garden. The author even has a chapter discussing bringing plants indoors.

This is a very well written ebook. It is easy to read and easy to navigate with the Table of Contents in front with links for each chapter. All in all this is a great book packed full of really good garden information. I am experienced organic gardener and have found this book very useful and handy to have on my Kindle. This was money well spent! :0)

Poorly Done

The information contained in this book can be found elsewhere. This book is for a rank novice who has never planted a seed - then you might find something useful. However, there are more knowledgeable people out there. This author totally blew it when she said that hybrids are dangerous and put them in the same category as GMO's. Hybrids are NOT GMO's. Hybrids are plants that man has made through the use of pollen or other NATURAL methods, not by splicing genes. Since the author obviously doesn't know this, it is difficult to trust in anything she says. Just pass on this book - there are much, much better beginning gardening books available.

Completely charming

What a charming, humorous, engaging story. It deserves every bit of five stars. While the story is a follow-up to Miss Hutton's, A Run For Love, this Christmas tale works just as well as a stand-alone. She has managed to give us the fully developed characters and believable plot so often missing in short stories. Check this one out, you won't be disappointed.

A delightful book!

Ellie is such a wonderful character. My only fault with this book is that it wasn't longer. But, considering it was so short it was amazing how involved you could get with the characters in such a short time.
Ellie is so funny you will laugh at her as she leads Max on a merry chase through out the book. It would be interesting to have another book on their lives after marriage. I'll bet living with Ellie would never be boring.
Such a fun book that's impossible to put down.
Anxiously awaiting the story of Rachel and Hunter.

Buy yourself a Christmas gift!

If you decide to buy A Wife by Christmas, you will not be disappointed in this delightful step back in time. A well written, romantic sequel to Ms. Hutton's first novel, A Run for Love, features Ellie Henderson, a turn of the century school teacher, who following in her Aunt Tori's footsteps, is every bit as tenacious, independent and feisty. Handsome principal, Max Colbert has his life, career and future planned. It does not include a headstrong Suffragette who constantly defies his authority and challenges him on all levels. But things do not always turn out as anticipated. Especially when you combine undeniable attraction, an array of comical mishaps, endearing moments and the magic of Christmas.
